Hi,

My name is Arshad Awan and I am seeking to become your next Ward 1 Councillor in the Town of Ajax.

I immigrated to Canada with my wife, Shagufta Awan, in 1998 to seek a better life for my family. My wife & I wife have lived in Markham, Scarborough and Etobicoke, finally choosing the Town of Ajax as the ideal place to raise my family of 3 boys, all of whom were born in Canada.

We are active members of the community and have always supported and volunteered for local organizations. In 2019 I was nominated as the Ajax Federal Candidate, ran in the Federal election and gained 13,237 votes.

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Diploma in Information Technology.

My first job in Canada was helping to support the Department of National Defence, under contract with Royal LePage Relocation Services, helping officers who moved or relocated, to sell or to maintain their houses.

Since 2006, I working as a Business Manager/Accounting for a non-profit which Supports Clean Energy in Canada, and around the world. In addition, I am also a proud small business owner and am active in the Ajax business community, providing vital accounting bookkeeping services to small businesses.

I am a strong believer in giving back to my country and community. I am providing free Income Tax services to low-income families and senior citizens in need. I am also a well-known media personality, hosting a weekly community TV show called Saat Rang (which literally means Seven Colors). The focus of the show is to bring different communities together, build bridges, and foster a better understanding of the changing landscape of our communities.

Volunteer Work

I am the President of the Muslim Children's Fund of Canada - a non-profit organization.

Harbest Seeds of Hope Pinakbet International - an advocacy group for community gardening
SuzyQJewels Women & Children Program - deals with abused women & children

I am an active member of the Ajax Conservative EDA and a member of the Board of Directors.
