My name is Monique Forster and I currently serve as Catholic School Trustee for the Town of Ajax, I am a college professor and a community leader. My family has lived in Ajax for the past thirty-five years.

For the past eight years I have served as Ajax’s Durham Catholic School Board Trustee. I serve on various DCDSB committees, and I continue to serve as the Chair of the Finance Committee. I am the President of the Canadian Hispanic Congress and I continue to serve on the Boards of Directors of various public and private organizations.

Why education and why as trustee? While my career began in the private sector, my commitment to education predates my thirty-year teaching career. The past eight years as trustee for the DCDSB have been extremely rewarding. I have had the opportunity to work closely with students, parents, and administrators, while serving the needs of students, families, teachers, and everyone contributing to their education. I would be honoured to continue serving my community in this manner.

How I embrace diversity? As a parent and an educator, I remain focused on the goal of excellence in education, which is achievable only in an environment that respects and nurtures the value and dignity of each person. Only a value-based system, that strives each day to celebrate diversity as its greatest strength, can ensure optimum preparation for each student’s success.

My priorities? It is essential to reimagine student success beyond the traditional measurable outcomes of graduation rates, academic achievement, persistence, and other measures of self-efficacy. My focus is on removing all systemic barriers and replacing them with fair and equitable policies, and practices that encourage the success of every student. This, while also providing a safe and caring environment where learning-by-doing student experiences result in capacity-building and growing student confidence.

If re-elected, I will continue to focus on 
-removing systemic barriers and replacing policies and practices not student-centred, with fair and equitable policies that support the success of every student.

-providing a caring school environment for every student, which recognizes that students’ social, mental, and economic well-being impacts their educational outcomes

-responding immediately to every concern from parents and all stakeholders regarding issues affecting the students and those who serve them.
